Hospice Eligibility

Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island, formerly known as Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, offers hospice care to adults, children and infants with life-limiting illnesses, such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, AIDS, end-stage heart and lung disease, kidney disease, liver disease and neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's and Lou Gehrig's diseases.

Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance plans cover hospice care. Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island provides services regardless of a patient's ability to pay.

Most reimbursement sources require a prognosis of six months or less if the illness runs its normal course and for patients who are not seeking aggressive curative treatment. Individuals who live beyond the six-month prognosis continue to receive hospice care if approved by a physician.
