Hope Hospice RI and South County Hospital Celebrate One-Year Anniversary of Opening of Hospice Suites

Plaque presentationPawtucket, RI - February 2009 ... A little over a year ago, South County Hospital Healthcare System and Hope Hospice RI teamed up to provide inpatient hospice care at two new suites in the hospital, located in Wakefield, RI. On Thursday, February 19, the hospital and Hope Hospice RI celebrated its one-year anniversary and their collaborative success with tours, a reception and a plaque presentation.  Diana Franchitto (2nd from the right), President & CEO of Hope Hospice RI, presented Barbara Seagrave, VP of Patient Care at South County Hospital a plaque in recognition of the hospital's excellent end-of-life care.  Shown with them are SCH staff (l-r) Sue Georgegantas, RN, Gia Howard, RN and Kathleen Leahy, RN. At the far right is Barbara Allen, RN from Hope Hospice RI's South Team.

Located on the South County Hospital’s third floor in the Frost Family Pavilion, the suites accommodate individuals living in the South County area who need aggressive symptom management, pain control and psychosocial support. Each suite has a home-like feeling with a sleeper couch, refrigerator and flat screen television. The rooms are large, bright and have a wonderful view of Point Judith Salt Pond.

Prior to this partnership, individuals in need of inpatient hospice care were transferred to the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, forcing families to make long trips on a daily basis to be with their loved ones.

In one year, approximately 125 individuals and their families received compassionate end of life care at the hospital in partnership with Hope Hospice RI's hospice team of professionals. This event celebrated this success.
