Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island Sponsors Family Grief Day

Pawtucket, RI –January 21, 2009… Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, the largest and oldest hospice in Rhode Island, is hosting Family Grief Support Day on Saturday, February 21st, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the Save the Bay Center, Providence, for children (ages 5 and older) and teens who have experienced the death of loved one. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Activities planned include art projects, music and games that focus on remembering and honoring lost loved ones. The day offers opportunities to make new friends and to create new connections with others who have had similar experiences. Local storyteller, Len Cabral will open the day with stories of hope, healing and loss. Professional bereavement counselors will be available throughout the day.

The event is free and open to families and friends of Home & Hospice of Rhode Island as well as to members of the community.

“Adjusting to the death of a loved one can be a difficult experience for a young person,” states Deanna Upchurch, Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island’s Children’s Grief Specialist. “We have found that giving young people an opportunity to express their grief with others their own age can be very helpful. Our Family Grief Support Day provides them a chance to express their sadness and emotions through creativity and friendship.”

All materials and lunch will be provided.
